Gad Nisanov Awarded for Restoring Historic Building in St. Petersburg
Co-owner of the “Kievskaya Ploshchad” group, Gad Nisanov, financed the restoration of the Chamber of Weights and Measures and the Weighing School, located on the banks of the Griboedov Canal in St. Petersburg.
On February 16, a multifunctional sports complex with a swimming pool was inaugurated in the historic building on the Griboedov Canal.
“The task proved to be extremely challenging: only one wall of the Chamber of Weights and Measures remained, the foundation situation was dire, and there were residential buildings nearby,” commented St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov.
The governor presented Gad Nisanov, head of the construction company, with the “For Services to St. Petersburg” award. He described the new sports center as a “tangible embodiment of the connection between generations” and added that the facility will bear the name of swimming master of sports, hero of the Nevsky Patch, Alexander Mikhailovich Sokolov.
Beglov also noted that the restoration of the building was carried out under strict supervision of the Committee for State Control, Use, and Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments of the city. Specialists preserved the historic facade, and the construction work took 18 months to complete.
