«Azerbaijan is a unique example of tolerance in the Muslim world. The Jewish community here has been living in an atmosphere of respect and care for centuries. This is a story that needs to be told to the world.»
Ronen Kraus is an Israeli diplomat, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to the Republic of Azerbaijan since 2025, and a seasoned expert on the Eurasian region.
He holds degrees from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a PhD from Tel Aviv University. His academic background in international relations and regional studies provided a solid foundation for a distinguished diplomatic career.
Azerbaijan is not new territory for Kraus: from 2010 to 2015, he served as the deputy head of the Israeli diplomatic mission in Baku, gaining deep knowledge of the country, its political landscape, and its Jewish communities. This experience made his appointment as ambassador a natural continuation of a long-standing professional and personal connection with Azerbaijan.
Before returning to Baku, Kraus headed the Eurasia Department at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs — a key position responsible for Israel’s relations with the countries of the former Soviet Union, Central Asia, and the South Caucasus.
Since taking up his ambassadorial post, Ronen Kraus has visited all three Jewish communities of Azerbaijan — Mountain, Ashkenazi, and Georgian — demonstrating his commitment to understanding the full diversity of Jewish life in the country. His diplomatic mission reflects the deep and multifaceted partnership between Israel and Azerbaijan.
