Mikhail Gusman is a prominent Russian journalist, TV host, and public figure, whose roots are deeply connected to Baku and Azerbaijan. Born in 1950 in the capital of Azerbaijan into the family of a well-known physician, he grew up in an atmosphere of intellectual tradition and cultural richness. His brother, Yuliy Gusman, is a famous film director and TV personality.

After graduating from the Faculty of Journalism at Moscow State University (MSU) and later from the Diplomatic Academy, Mikhail Gusman built a career that combined journalism, diplomacy, and public service at the highest level.

From 2000 to 2025, he served as the First Deputy Director General of TASS — Russia’s oldest and largest news agency. In this role, Gusman was one of the most influential figures in Russian media, shaping editorial policy and international partnerships of the agency.

His signature project is “Formula of Power” — a series of exclusive interviews with world leaders, presidents, prime ministers, and kings. The program has become one of the most recognized formats in Russian journalism, granting Gusman unique access to the global political elite.

For his contributions to the development of relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, as well as his cultural and public work, Mikhail Gusman was awarded the orders Shokhrat (Glory) and Dostlug (Friendship) — among the highest state distinctions of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Five generations of his family lived in Azerbaijan, and he continues to maintain a deep personal connection with his hometown of Baku.
