Israeli authorities intend to significantly expand their military actions in Lebanon against the group Hezbollah, which is supported by the United States. This was reported by the Axios portal.

According to one source, Israel plans to intensify its ground operation in Lebanon with the aim of capturing all territory south of the Litani River and dismantling Hezbollah’s military infrastructure. “We aim to replicate what we did in the Gaza Strip,” says an Israeli official, referring to strikes on buildings that are allegedly used by Hezbollah for military purposes.

The article notes that such a large-scale operation could lead to a prolonged Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon.

It is also emphasized that the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump supports Israel conducting a major operation to disarm Hezbollah, but insists on minimizing damage to Lebanon and calls for direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon to achieve a post-war agreement.

Sources indicate that initially, Israeli leadership did not plan to carry out an operation of this magnitude, focusing their efforts on military actions against Iran. However, these plans were revised following a rocket attack by Hezbollah on Israeli territory.
