According to Iranian media reports, Hossein Dehghan, the former Minister of Defense of Iran, has been appointed as the Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council following the death of Ali Larijani.

Dehghan served as Minister of Defense from 2013 to 2017 and was an advisor to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, on defense industry matters. As of now, there has been no official confirmation of this information.

In 1983, Hossein Dehghan commanded the forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in Lebanon and Syria. He is linked to the attack on the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut, which resulted in the deaths of 241 American servicemen. Sanctions were imposed on him in connection with this incident.

According to some estimates, Dehghan was also involved in the formation of the “Hezbollah” movement.
