A tragedy occurred in the American city of Nampa, located in the state of Idaho: Mayor Rick Hogaboam, who was 47 years old, passed away during his speech to the citizens.

According to NBC News, he suddenly collapsed during his address. Eyewitnesses at the scene immediately provided first aid. One resident attempted to perform chest compressions and administer artificial respiration, but despite their efforts, medical personnel confirmed his death.

The city authorities have urged residents to keep the family and loved ones of the deceased in their prayers during this difficult time. “We all mourn this irreplaceable loss. Please be understanding as we grieve not only the loss of our mayor but also that of a friend,” reads the official statement.

According to the channel, Hogaboam had been mayor for only a few months, having been sworn in on January 5, 2026. Previously, he served as the Canyon County Clerk and was a member of the Nampa City Council.

The police department noted that Rick was not only a professional in his field but also a wonderful father and husband. “He was a leader dedicated to serving the community, and his legacy will live on forever. His commitment to public service and non-profit work will not be forgotten,” stated law enforcement representatives.

Currently, the city is being managed by an interim mayor while the future of the position is determined.
