In the morning of February 28, the Israeli Air Force carried out strikes on various targets within Iran. At 8:13 AM, a warning siren was announced throughout Israel. The U.S. military is also participating in operations against the Iranian regime.

Immediately after the alarm signal, the IDF reported:

“For the past few minutes, sirens have been sounding across the country, and a warning from the Home Front Command has been sent to citizens’ mobile devices. It is recommended to stay near protected areas. This warning is intended to inform the population of possible rocket attacks. There is currently no need to remain in secured zones.”

Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that “Israel has launched a preemptive attack against Iran”. He also declared a special and immediate state of emergency across the country. Katz added:

“The aim of this operation is to eliminate threats posed by Iran to the State of Israel. A retaliatory attack with rockets and drones on Israel and its civilian population is expected shortly.”

According to the minister’s directive, a special state of emergency has been declared throughout the country. The Israeli Home Front Command notified that from 8 AM on February 28, all regions of the country are switching to a “necessary operations only” mode. The new instructions include the following measures:

  • Ban on educational activities;
  • Ban on mass gatherings;
  • Ban on the operation of most businesses and organizations, except for essential services.

The military operation by Israel was initially named “Shield of Judah”, but later, by the decision of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, it was renamed “Lion’s Roar”. The American attack on Iran was characterized as “Epic Fury”, according to statements from the Pentagon. The publication reported that “The U.S. participated in the morning strikes on Iran in conjunction with Israel”, however, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has not yet commented on this information.

U.S. President Donald Trump also made an official statement confirming the start of a large-scale military operation against Iran. In his message posted on the Truth Social platform, he outlined the goals of the operation:

“We are going to destroy Iranian missiles, fleets, and ensure they do not acquire nuclear weapons. We have taken all measures to minimize the likelihood of harm to American forces in the region, but American casualties are possible.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the citizens of the country through a video message, stating:

“A few hours ago, Israel and the U.S. began an operation to eliminate the existential threat posed by the Iranian terrorist regime. I thank President Trump for his historic leadership. For 47 years, the Ayatollah regime has been shouting slogans of ‘Death to Israel!’ and ‘Death to America!’. It spills the blood of our citizens, kills Americans, and destroys its own people. This dangerous regime must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons that threaten all of humanity.”

Netanyahu urged the Iranian people to fight for freedom:

“It is time for all communities of the Iranian people – Persians, Kurds, Azerbaijanis, Baluchis, Ahvazis – to throw off the yoke of tyranny and create a free and peaceful Iran.”

He also called on the citizens of Israel to follow the instructions of the Home Front Command:

“In the coming days during the ‘Lion’s Roar’ operation, we will all need patience and resilience. Together we will endure, together we will fight, together we will ensure the eternity of Israel.”
