At 8:13 AM on February 28, a rocket alarm was declared across Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that “in recent minutes, alarms sounded nationwide, and a preliminary warning was sent to citizens’ mobile phones by the Home Front Command, urging them to stay in safe zones.” This notification serves as a precautionary measure aimed at informing the public about a potential threat of rocket fire.
The IDF also noted that there is currently no need to remain in protected areas. At this time, Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the commencement of a preemptive strike against Iran, stating that “Israel is taking action to eliminate threats directed against the state.” He added that attacks using rockets and drones against Israel and its civilian population are expected in the near future.
In response, Israel Katz signed an order to impose a special and immediate state of emergency throughout Israel. The Home Front Command reported that as of 8 AM on February 28, all regions of the country would enter a “necessary activity only” mode. New instructions include:
- Prohibition on educational activities;
- Prohibition on mass gatherings;
- Prohibition on the operation of most businesses and organizations, except for essential services.
