Italy Sets New Record for Antisemitism

In 2025, Italy recorded an unprecedented number of antisemitic incidents — 963 cases, according to the Center for Contemporary Jewish Documentation (CDEC). For comparison, the number of such incidents was 241 in 2022, 453 in 2023, and this figure increased to 877 in 2024.

The majority of offenses — 643 cases — occurred on digital platforms. However, physical acts of aggression, such as graffiti, vandalism, desecration of synagogues, threats, and assaults, also represented a significant portion — 320 incidents.

Experts express particular concern over the results of a September survey, which revealed that about 15% of Italians consider attacks on Jews to be “justified.” Researchers from CDEC emphasize that there is a dangerous trend toward normalizing antisemitic rhetoric in the country.
