Sean Penn Awarded BAFTA Prize
Actor Sean Penn has been recognized as the winner of the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) in the category of “Best Supporting Actor.” He received this award for his portrayal of Colonel Stephen Lockhart in Paul Thomas Anderson’s film “Battle for Battle.” The 79th awards ceremony took place at the Royal Festival Hall in London on February 22.
For 65-year-old Penn, this marks the first time he has been honored with a BAFTA statuette. He had previously been nominated three times for the award for leading roles in “Mystic River,” “21 Grams,” and “Milk,” but had not won on any of those occasions. The actor was unable to attend the event, and his award was accepted on his behalf by colleagues from the film crew.
The film “Battle for Battle” turned out to be the true triumph of the evening, winning six awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Experts believe this success makes the film a serious contender for the Oscars, where Sean Penn is also considered one of the favorites in his category. The Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 15.
