A New Underground Emergency Hospital Opens in Tel Aviv
A new underground hospital has been launched at the “Assuta Ramat HaHayal” medical facility, designed to accommodate approximately 200 beds. This project was initiated in response to a request from the Israeli Ministry of Health and is intended to serve as a national medical infrastructure in emergency situations.
The new medical complex will receive patients from public hospitals that lack the necessary level of protection, thus ensuring the continuity of medical care even in the face of high risks of rocket attacks.
Additionally, “Assuta Ramat HaHayal” has a system of protected operating rooms on the surface, where patients were transferred during the “Lion’s Nation” operation for prolonged and complex interventions.
Previously, the Ministry of Health maintained a position against the operation of private medical facilities during emergencies. However, events that occurred during the “Iron Swords” war, particularly during the “Lion’s Nation” operation, have led to a reassessment of this strategy.
Over the past two months, extensive work has been carried out to establish infrastructure for medical gas supply, electricity, and communication at the underground levels, facilitating a rapid transition to hospitalization.
Dr. Shani Brosh, head of the medical department at Assuta, noted:
“In the last month or two, a lot of intense work has been done. An agreement has been signed, and a contractor has been appointed to create the infrastructure for gas supply, electricity, and communication, allowing for the immediate transfer of patients to the underground complexes. The infrastructure is now ready and can accommodate about 200 hospitalized patients coming from other unprotected hospitals.”
The CEO of Assuta Medical Centers, Gidi Lashatz, explained that this is part of a long-term strategy for the development of the healthcare system.
